With an understanding that one approach does not fit all, I provide support for addiction or injury moving you quicker to recovery. I specialise in many forms of online addiction such as gambling and gaming along with many that are part of our modern life such as phones, shopping and pornography. I also work to enable people to build more healthy relationships with pain and how to cope with trauma.
Using primarily Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and / or psychodynamic counselling I focus on delivering positive solutions that can help you improve your life and your world.
Other areas that I provide counselling in are:
Anxiety and panic attacks
Low self esteem and self-confidence
Issues with food, exercise and and how we perceive ourselves
Management of medication and illness
Previously, an accredited Sport Psychologist working with many Olympic athletes, I retrained as a Psychodynamic therapist followed by a 2-year course in CBT. My area of research has always been how athletes cope with long term injuries and pain management and this has carried through into my counselling. I am currently a Clinical Manager for a online global gambling charity enabling people to find a more balanced relationship with something that many of us do for fun.

Addiction is defined by the NHS as "not having control over doing, taking or using something to the point where it could be harmful to you". Most commonly associated with gambling, drugs, alcohol and nicotine, but it's possible to be addicted to just about anything, including that which can be purchased, viewed or interacted with online. As our lives are more and more reliant on an electronic portal, we find ourselves “addicted” to the pleasures and escapes on offer until we believe we cannot live without them
Many of us will suffer injury as a result of participation in sport or maybe accidental falls. The physical side of us can be put back together but often the mental aspects of injury are ignored. Adherence issues, loss of confidence and indeed questions of who you are as a person may accompany serious injuries as well as questions around how the injury occurred. Psychological injury rehabilitation should work hand in hand with your physical recovery speeding you back to a full fitness.
People can interpret events in many different ways leading to a variety of emotional and behavioural responses. CBT examines current unhelpful thought patterns, exploring how they can affect your emotions and actions in the here and now. This helps you to change how you think, focusing on ways to improve your psychological wellbeing. Negative thoughts and beliefs play a significant role in the development and maintenance of conditions such as depression, anxiety or low self-esteem.
Psychodynamic counselling provides a broad range of therapeutic approaches helping you to understand the cause of your problems and issues. With a strong emphasis on the trust between a client and counsellor, psychodynamic therapy provides the tools required to make progress with issues that may have roots deeply buried in the past. It also helps equip you with knowledge and suggestions to enable you to cope with further difficulties.
